CONTEXT : Personal project
TEAM SIZE : 1
DURATION : 1 week
ENGINE : Unreal Engine
In a mix inspired by games such as Rainbow Six Siege and Hunt: Showdown, I designed, over the course of one week, a combat space that could be found within a map. The goal is to have gameplay with high-risk zones that provide combat and tension, with a main building that players can defend, but with the possibility of being attacked.
Méthodologie
To build my level, I first started by asking myself how a museum is structured. I therefore did some research on famous museums around the world, such as the Louvre, the Natural History Museum of New York, London, Nantes, and Paris.
I then created layouts for how I would arrange, in my own way, the different rooms of the museum: the exterior where the truck entrance for the logistics of new artworks would be located, the various entrances to the main building, the exhibition areas for players, as well as the lines of sight that defenders could have toward the outside of the building.
I then launched Unreal Engine and found certain meshes sourced from Fab to help me create my level design. There were some changes compared to my initial layout, but the main idea remained the same.
Finally, I set up a small AI system to play and simulate real players, in order to give a preview of the level and find out whether any changes need to be made, and most importantly whether the level design is fun to play for the players.
